In the Urantia teachings, angels—called seraphim—are described as personal, intelligent spiritual beings who serve as ministers to both humans and celestial personalities.

Seraphim are ministering spirits of the Local Universe.
Within the Urantia cosmology, seraphim originate from the Divine Mother Spirit of Nebadon, known as Nebadonia. They serve throughout the universe as helpers, guides, protectors, and teachers. Their essential purpose is to assist in the spiritual growth and welfare of all personalities.
Seraphim serve under the direction of Christ Michael and Nebadonia.
As the sovereigns of Nebadon, these two divine beings supervise all angelic ministries. Seraphim carry out assignments that support universe order, spiritual education, moral encouragement, and the upliftment of mortals and celestial beings.
Seraphim minister to human beings on Urantia.
In the teachings of the Urantia Book, certain pairs of angels are assigned to individuals or groups. They encourage spiritual choices, promote moral insight, guide thought toward truth, and support the development of the soul. They do not control a person’s will but work gently to uplift the mind.
Seraphim are organized into many orders of service.
The Urantia text describes different types of seraphim, each with specific functions. These include teaching seraphim, guardians of destiny, angels of the churches, angels of nations, angels of progress, angels of enlightenment, and many others. Each order focuses on its own area of ministry.
Guardian angels play a special role in human spiritual destiny.
According to the narrative, when a human reaches a certain level of spiritual maturity and makes significant moral choices, a pair of guardian seraphim may be assigned personally. They accompany the individual, support growth, and play a role in the survival of the soul.
Seraphim cooperate with the Thought Adjuster.
While the Thought Adjuster represents the direct presence of the Universal Father within the human mind, seraphim work externally by influencing circumstances, inspiring higher thoughts, and helping the individual recognize truth, beauty, and goodness. Their ministries are harmonious and complementary.
Angels contribute to the administration and progress of the universe.
Beyond personal ministry, seraphim are involved in planetary affairs, educational work, universe communication, the management of morontial worlds, and the upliftment of evolving societies. Their service extends far beyond human life on Earth.
